CHAPTER  IV

I.C., F.C. RADIO AND RADAR SYSTEMS
SECTION  I
GENERAL

The systems, that are covered in this chapter, are installed aboard the vessel for the purposes as listed below: 

  1. Provide means for transmitting orders and information throughout the ship.
  2. Provide means of radio communication between the following:
    • (1)  Ship to Ship
      (2)  Ship to Shore
      (3)  Ship to Aircraft
  3. Provide Radar detection for purpose of navigation and fire control.

A general description of each system as installed, is included in the following pages. Each description is under a heading which indicates system and circuit number. 

SECTION  II

INTERIOR COMMUNICATIONS
SOUND POWERED TELEPHONE SYSTEM

CKT. JA & 1JV 

This system provides means of telephone communications between all stations when head sets are plugged in the Jack Box. 

The component part of the system consist of the following: 

  • (9) S.P. Tel Jack Box, Single 

  • (8) S.P. Tel Head Set, with Cord 8 Jack 

  • (5) S.P. Tel Head Set, Stowage Box, 1 Compartment (i) S.W. Rot. Snap-Trans., 10A, 125V, DPDT (For Bridge Jack Box to Select "JA" or "1JV.") 

The equipment making up the system is located as follows: Where station is referred to it means Jack Box and Head Set.

GYRO SYSTEM
CKT.  "LC" 

The gyro compass mark 27, Mod. O or Master compass as it is also called, is the principal unit of gyro-compass equipment. It is an instrument designed to give an accurate indication of the true geographic north: Hence it is an excellent aid to navigation, The complete gyro compass is equipped with synchro transmitters for transmitting the compass headings to repeater on the Bridge and gyro information fed to T.M. Radar. 

The source of power for the gyro system is fed from 24 V, Distribution Box located in the Lobby and 115V A.C. supply to synchro amplifier.

UNDERWATER LOG SYSTEM
CKT. "Y"

 The system indicates the speed, in Knots, of the vessel. The component parts of the system consists of a transmitter in the Plot Room, and one (1) remote speed indicator located on the Bridge. Speed information is supplied to Radar. 

The "Y" system is energized from 115V Distribution Panel located in the Lobby. The circuit designation of the power supply cable is C-Y-1.

GENERAL ALARM SYSTEM
CKT. "G" 

This system shall provide a means of sounding alarm signals throughout the boat. The installation shall consist of a self-locking, manual-release, lever operated switch installed on the bridge and connected to energize a type 1C/KIA motor driven relay. The relay shall be connected to energize a type 1C/H354 horn installed on topside oft of the bridge and in the engine control station. The relay shall also be connected to energize a type 1C/H1Sr horn installed in the crew quarters, galley and officers messroom. For wiring of the system sep the following:

ENGINE REVOLUTION INDICATOR SYSTEM
CKT. "KM" 

This system shall provide a means of indicating the revolutions per minute of the propulsion engines. The installation for each engine shall consist of a tachometer generator mechanically connected to each engine and electrically connected to on indicator installed at the bridge and at. the engine control station . For wiring of the system see the following:

PROPULSION ENGINE ALARM SYSTEM
CKT . EC/EW 

This system shall provide a means of indicating low oil pressure in the propulsion engines and high temperature of the propulsion engine cooling system. The installation for each propulsion engine shall consist of a  pressure operated switch installed in the lubricating oil supply line and a thermostatic switch installed in the cooling water line. These switches shall be connected to energize a common audible and separate visual signals in the engine control station and on the Bridge. The common audible signal shall consist of a type 1C/B254 bell.

NAVIGATION HORN
CKT."NH" 

The Navigation Horn which is located on the Bridge is being fed from a 24V, D.C. Distribution Box #2-30-1 located in the Lobby. The pushbutton control for the horn is located in the Bridge Control Panel. For further details of this system see Ckt. "NH"

RUDDER ANGLE INDICATOR SYSTEM
CKT. "N" 

This system shall provide a means ;f indicating the position of the rudder. The installation shall consist of t:ype 1C/48G20 transmitter mechanically connected to the rudder stock and electrically connected directly to a type 1C/1UA11 indicator on Bridge. SECTION  III

FIRE CONTROL
CEASE FIRE -40MM GUN

CKT. "45U" (1) 

Circuit "45U" is installed to give a "Cease Fire" Signal to the one (1) 40 mm gun mounted oft on the vessel. Circuit "45U" is energized from the 120/240V, 3W, Distribution Panel #2--36-3 which feeds ~he Bridge Control Panel. One pushbutton for the after gun is mounted in Section #i of the Bridge Control Panel. When the "Cease Fire" Push- button for after gun is operated a horn, Type IC/HBS4 located at the gun will operate.

CEASE FIRE - 20 MM GUNS
CKT. "45U " (2) 

Circuit "45U" is installed to give a "Cease Fire" signal to the two (2) 20 mm guns on the vessel. Circuit "45U" is energized from the 120/240\/, 3W, Distribution Panel #2-36-3 which feed the Bridge Control Panel. Two (2) pushbuttons one for each gun are mounted in Section #1 of the Bridge Control Panel.. When the "Cease Fire" pushbutton for the starboard 20 mm guns is operated a horn, Type 1C/HBS4 located at the gun will operate. When the "Cease Fire" pushbutton for the port 20 mm guns is operated a horn, Type 1C/HBS4 located at that gun will operate.

CEASE FIRE - 81 MM MORTAR
C
KT. "45U" (3)

 Circuit "45U" is installed to give a "Cease Fire" signal to the one (1) 81 mm Mortar mounted forward on the vessel. Circuit "45U" is energized from the 120/22OV, 3W, Distribution Panel #2-36-3 which Feeds the Bridge Control Panel. One pushbutton for the 81 mm Mortar is mounted in Section X1 of the Bridge Control Panel. When the "Cease Fire" pushbutton for the 81mm mortar is operated a horn, Type 1C/HBS4 located at the site will operate. For wiring of the system see the following

SECTION  IV

RADIO SYSTEM
AN/ARC-27 TRANSMITTER & RECEIVER SYSTEM

CKT. "R-RA" 

The AN/ARC-27 equipment is located on the port bulkhead of the Radio Room and receives its power from the 24 volt D.C. power panel #2-36-1 located in the lobby.

RADIO SYSTEM
AN/GRC-109 TRANSMITTER & RECEIVER SYSTEM

CKT. "R-RR" 

The AN/GRC-109 equipment is located on the two bulkhead of the Radio Room and receives its power from the 115V, A.C. Distribution Panel located in the Lobby.

RADIO SYSTEM
ANARC-94 TRANSMITTER &  RECEIVER SYSTEM

CKT. "R-RT" 

The AN/ARC-94 equipment is located on the port bulkhead of the Radio  Room and receives its power from the 115V Distribution Panel located in the Lobby.

SECTION V

RADAR SYSTEMS
CKT. "R-ES"

The Radar equipment for this system will be located in the Converter Room, Plot Room and Bridge and receives its power from 115V. A.C. Distribution Panel located in the Lobby.

DEPTH INDICATOR SYSTEM
CKT. "R-SD" 

The Depth indicator equipment is located in the Plot Room and receives its power from a 24V, D.C. Distribution Box located in the Lobby via a voltage regulator located in the Control Room.

RADIO DIRECTION FINDER

The Radio Direction Finder is located in the Plot Room and is powered by 24V,D.C. from the Distributor Box located in the Lobby.
